Algorand Governance

In order to earn a high amount of interest on your ALGO, you must participate in the Algorand governance program. What this entails is you committing your ALGO for a period of time (about 3 months) and voting on decisions regarding the Algorand itself. This may seem intimidating to many people, especially if you don’t know anything about cryptocurrency or any decisions one might need to make in the ecosystem, but Algorand has made the process easier by explaining proposals very simply, allowing you to change your vote, and also allowing you to see what everyone else has voted for. The governance session lasts about 3 months and consists of the ALGO committal period, the voting period, and the cooldown period. 

The committal period is when ALGO holders commit their ALGO and register themselves to vote. Once the committal period is over, new holders will have missed out on the ability to earn governance rewards until the next governance session. If your ALGO balance drops below your committed amount, you will forfeit your governance rewards.

The voting period is when the governance session’s proposal will be shown. You must make a choice to receive governance rewards. You are allowed to change your vote at any time during the voting period Governors with a higher amount of committed ALGO hold more voting power.

The cooldown period is self explanatory. You don’t need to worry about anything during this period and it’s essentially the wait time until the next governance session, which you again will need to remember to commit your ALGO and vote just as you’ve already done.

Note: When you commit your ALGO to governance, it is NOT locked and DOES NOT leave your wallet. If your ALGO balance ever drops below the amount that you’ve committed, you will NOT receive governance rewards.

Pairing The Pera Algo Wallet With The Algorand Governance Website

With ALGO in your Pera Algo Wallet, you’re now ready to connect to the Algorand governance website. You may not be able to take advantage of interest earning opportunities right away as you must commit your ALGO at the beginning of each governance session.

1. Go to https://governance.algorand.foundation/ on a computer or mobile device other than the one with your Pera Algo Wallet. Choose “Connect Wallet” at the top right.
   

2. Choose “Pera Algo Wallet”. You will be shown a QR code to scan.

3. Back in your Pera Algo Wallet, press the scan icon in the top right. Scan the QR code.

4. Choose “Connect” after scanning the code.

5. Back on the governance website, select your account in the window that pops up.

Staking Your AMP

1. Go to https://app.flexa.network/connect and choose to connect your MetaMask wallet.
   

2. Once it’s connected, your MetaMask address will show up at the top right of the website. Click it to open up a drop down menu and confirm that it shows your AMP. Mouse over the dollar amount your AMP is worth and the “Stake” button will appear. Click “Stake”.

3. Complete the rest of the initial startup procedures. Write down your seed phrase and make sure no one knows about it. The phrase is how you will access your wallet if you are not using a hardware wallet.

4. Click the “Receive” tab and transfer your ADA to one of the provided addresses.

5. Click the “Staking” tab.

6. By default, AdaLite will plug their own stake pool into the Stake Pool ID. If you want to stake with another stake pool, go to any ADA stake pool website such as https://adapools.org/ 

7. Each stake pool will generate you about 5% interest on your ADA, so there is no best option to choose where your ADA should be delegated to. You can click each stake pool and read what they’re all about and delegate to whoever you like.

8. Once you’ve decided on a stake pool to delegate to, click the “Delegate” button and then confirm the transaction.

9. After finalizing any following prompts, you’re all done!

4. Daedalus Wallet

Daedalus is the most difficult of the 3 wallets we recommend. Although we recommend this wallet, it should probably only be used as a last choice if Yoroi or AdaLite either do not work for you or you don’t like how they look. The reason for this is that the Daedalus wallet must sync to the blockchain every time you open the program, which can take a while and can be annoying to keep waiting for. Despite this, it is still a solid wallet and Daedalus can be synced with your Ledger or Trezor hardware wallet. Daedalus wallet is only available on PC.

1.Go to https://daedaluswallet.io/

2. Download and install the Daedalus wallet for your current operating system (macOS, Linux, Windows 8.1 and 10)

3. Launch Daedelus wallet.

4. Complete the initial startup procedures.

5.Create a wallet or pair with a hardware wallet if you have one that you want to use.

6. Write down your given seed phrase and store it in a safe location after verifying it.

7. Wait for Daedelus to sync with the blockchain. It is normal for it to take a very long time (many hours) to sync on your first time using the wallet. It will be faster on following startups but there will still be a wait.

8. Click the “Receive” tab and transfer your ADA to one of the provided addresses.

9. With your ADA now in your wallet, click on the button right below the wallet icon on the left side of the app to take you to the delegation center, then click on the “Stake pools” tab. There will be a slider allowing you to change it to the amount of ADA you want to delegate. This will update the amount each stake pool shows for the amount of potential interest you will receive every 5 days of staking.

10.Each stake pool will generate you about 5% interest on your ADA, so there is no best option to choose where your ADA should be delegated to. You can click each stake pool and read what they’re all about and delegate to whoever you like.

11. After choosing a stake pool, click the “Delegate to this pool” button and follow the instructions provided.

12. After confirming your delegation, you’re all done!

Undelegating Your Cardano

Yoroi is the only wallet that allows you to undelegate and get your initial deposit back. AdaLite and Daedelus will only allow you to switch stake pools.

Yoroi Wallet(Desktop and Mobile): In your Yoroi Dashboard, click the “Withdraw” button under your rewards section and then deregister your staking key. You will also receive your initial delegation deposit back.

• You must have some balance of ADA already to withdraw your rewards
• There will be a backlog of approximately 3 weeks of rewards so don’t remove all your balance until you receive all your rewards

Pairing Your Hardware Wallet Yoroi (Desktop): 

1. Install the Cardano ADA app on Ledger Live if you’re using a Ledger device. Trezor users start at step 2.
2. Add a new wallet on Yoroi and choose “Connect to hardware wallet”.

3. Choose Cardano as the currency.

4. Choose Ledger or Trezor Hardware wallets depending on which you use.

Cosmostation is the recommended Cosmos wallet for your mobile device. It is simple to use and like Keplr, it can be paired with a Ledger hardware wallet. 

1. Download Cosmostation on your mobile device’s app store (iOS and Android supported).

3. After finalizing your wallet’s creation, you will see your account overview. Send your ATOM to the provided address.

6. After choosing a validator, press the “Delegate” button for them.

3. Ledger (Safest Option)

Having a Ledger hardware wallet is the absolute safest way to keep your cryptocurrencies safe. Cosmos is one of the cryptocurrencies that can be staked directly through Ledger. If you have a Ledger hardware wallet, this is the recommended method of staking it.

1. Install the Cosmos app onto your Ledger hardware wallet on Ledger Live.
   

2. When the app finishes installing, click “Add account”.

3. Follow the on-screen prompts until the account is added successfully.

Cosmos is a great cryptocurrency to have and has many different methods to earn interest on it. The tradeoff for this is that it is the most unsafe option (although it’s still very safe) and also provides the lowest interest per year on your ATOM because the exchange takes a cut of the total interest you should be getting.

6. MetaMask will automatically pop up and ask you to confirm the transaction. Click “Confirm” to finalize.

7. Back in the staker dashboard, click the “Claim” button under “Eth to be claimed”.

8. Choose to earn your rewards as either aETHb or aETHc. There is no best choice and it is up to you which method you prefer.

3. Gemini (Not Recommended)

Gemini is one of the easier cryptocurrency exchanges to use. It is also one of the only exchanges that allows you to earn interest on your Ethereum without locking it, although this comes at the cost of earning lower interest compared to other exchanges. By holding ETH in your Gemini Earn account, you can currently earn about 2.05% interest per year on your ETH. You can buy your ETH directly on Gemini Earn or transfer it in from your Gemini wallet. To transfer your ETH to Gemini, here are the steps:

1. Click the “Transfer” button near the top right of the website and click “Deposit into Gemini”.
   

2.Use the dropdown menu to select “ETH” as the selected cryptocurrency and then click “Continue”.

3. Send your ETH to the provided address and then click “Done”.

Cosmostation is the method the Fetch.ai developers recommend to stake your FET. Staking on Cosmostation currently provides about 20% interest per year on your FET.

1. Download Cosmostation on your mobile device’s app store (iOS and Android supported).
   

2. Create a new wallet and choose the Fetch.ai Mainnet in the following screen.

3. After your wallet is created, press on your address at the top to be able to copy the address.

4. Native coin users – Send your FET to the provided address and proceed to step 6. ERC20 FET users – Copy this address and proceed to step 5.

5. Back at the Fetch.ai Token Bridge, paste your Cosmostation FET address into the “Native Address” field. Afterwards, enter in the amount of FET you wish to transfer to Cosmostation. There is a 100 FET minimum to transfer. Confirm the transaction through MetaMask. It is normal for the transaction to take a while, do not panic if you do not see your FET on Cosmostation for a few minutes.

3. After creating your wallet, either press the shortened address under your account name or press the “Receive” button to get your wallet address.

4. Send $50-100 ETH to the provided address.

5. Back in the main screen, press “Add Tokens” and then search for The Graph token and go through the process of adding it to your account.

6. Since GRT is an Ethereum token, send your GRT to the same address you originally sent your ETH to add your GRT to MetaMask.

Staking Your Graph (Desktop only)

To stake your Graph, you must connect your MetaMask wallet to Graph Explorer. Unfortunately, the “Connect” button only shows up on the computer, so if you’ve only been using the mobile version of MetaMask at this time, you’ll need to get the desktop version of MetaMask and sync it with your mobile version of MetaMask.

1. Go to https://thegraph.com/explorer/ and connect your MetaMask wallet.
   

2. Your MetaMask app will automatically open up. Go through the process of connecting MetaMask to Graph Explorer.

3. Once MetaMask is connected to Graph Explorer, you will see your account address at the top right. Click this to go into your account overview.

4. Go to the “Delegating” tab and then click “Find an indexer”.

5. You will be provided with a list of Indexers that you can delegate your GRT to.

6. Generally, you want to look for an indexer with a low Query Fee Cut and an effective reward cut in the positive percentage. You can also just click the “Delegated” column to sort it and see which Indexer is the most popular.

7. After deciding on an Indexer to delegate to, select the delegate button on the far right side of the table for that Indexer.

8. A window will pop up for you to choose how much of your GRT you want to stake. We recommend staking the maximum amount.

9. After approving the delegation, MetaMask will automatically pop up and inform you of the ETH fee. Confirm the transaction. Continue going through the prompts until your GRT is successfully staked.

10. Go back to your account overview and confirm that you now have GRT “In Protocol” and see it in the “Delegating” section.

Syncing MetaMask With Your Hardware Wallet (Desktop Only)

For added security, you can sync your wallet to your hardware wallet. Ledger and Trezor are both supported. You can only sync on desktop.

1. Click your account icon at the top right. Click “Connect Hardware Wallet”. Select Ledger or Trezor depending on what you have and click “Continue”.
   

2. Follow the onscreen instructions for your hardware wallet. If you’re using a Ledger Nano X, disable bluetooth or it will have issues communicating with your browser.

3. After syncing, you will have a new account with all your Ethereum tokens listed.
